PRINCIPALS - STEP BY STEP FOR SUCCESS:

Principals are the #1 instructional leader in the school. ReThink Mathematics provides customized resources and professional development training to help principals improve their mathematics program and support teachers move all students to mastery by the end of the school year. Below are steps principals can take to start building a highly successful math program in their school.

STEP 1:  KNOW THE MATH: The Core standards have a unique mathematical progression for K-8th grade students to follow. Math teachers should be familiar with the math concepts and skills of, at least, two grade levels before and after the grade level they are teaching. ReThink Mathematics provides resources and services to help teachers learn the math content at different grade levels so that they can plan and deliver appropriate instruction and best practices in the classroom.

STEP 2:  K-8 INSTRUCTIONAL FRAMEWORK: Teachers benefit greatly from having a clearly defined K-8 instructional framework in mathematics. ReThink Mathematics’ Instructional Units help schools align all K-8 math teachers toward one uniform scope and sequence mapped to schools’ existing textbooks. All units accommodate remediation and enrichment at each grade level promoting the goal of mastery.

Step 3:  CLASSROOM-BASED ASSESSMENTS: ReThink Mathematics provides each grade level teacher a bank of checkpoint classroom-based assessments that are administered on a weekly basis to monitor student mastery progress (if needed). ReThink Mathematics also provides "benchmark" assessments teachers can administer at the beginning, middle, and end of the school year to chart growth. All ReThink Mathematics assessments allow teachers to easily target instruction based on individual student progress on specific Core standards throughout the school year.

Step 4:  PROGRESS MONITORING:  ReThink Mathematics provides teachers with a simple to use management system to organize weekly student data and easily monitor all student  progress in both classroom and benchmark assessments. MasterTrack Reports clearly identify student needs standard-by-standard, promoting weekly response to intervention.

PARENT OUTREACH: Parents can be a great reinforcement in the success of student's mathematical education. Parent letters are used in tandem with our student progress reports.
